This expressive typography spread was to showcase the essence of one of the most influential graphic designers in the world, Paula Scher. Her quote, “Words have meaning. Type has spirit. The combination is spectacular,” implies the joy of graphic design and how type reflects words’ intended meanings. The project focused on page layout, grids, color, and hierarchy in typography.

Working Through Iterations
I started with sketches to conceptualize what the words would look like, and then I moved on to layout and hierarchy before landing on a final design and adding color.
Making the Final Decision
This project was fun to create, and I practiced skills that I hadn’t used in some time. I had limited color and typefaces to use, and this red color was my favorite part due to its vibrancy. I went through several iterations until finally deciding that this layout was the best to reflect the quote.
